The ISAAC Conference 2020 Call for Papers is now CLOSED to new submissions. It remains open, for the time being, for edits to existing submissions and the upload of completed ASHA forms.

The conference theme for ISAAC 2020 is “Communication Beyond Borders / Comunicación Sin Fronteras”. The theme challenges the AAC community to think beyond local contexts and to embrace broader global practices. The conference strives to move the field toward more culturally and linguistically responsive approaches, evidence-based practices and will support the launch of a Spanish Speaking Chapter of ISAAC. The conference will embrace and promote multiculturalism, multilingualism, equitable service provision and the communication rights of all individuals locally and globally. “Communication Beyond Borders / Comunicación Sin Fronteras” will provide people who use AAC (PWUAAC), practitioners, researchers, families, and AAC manufacturers with multiple forums for engagement, interaction and collaboration, while recognizing the uniqueness, strengths and challenges of diverse local contexts.

The conference committee is mindful of ISAAC’s efforts to build AAC professional capacity specifically in countries where Spanish is spoken, as well as countries that are traditionally underserved. To that end, ISAAC 2020 will:

  • ensure that conference co-chair leadership is representative of the Spanish-speaking world, including professionals from México and ISAAC’s US Chapter USSAAC.
  • encourage PWUAAC, researchers, professionals, and manufacturers globally to take an active part in developing, expanding and refining our evidence base and ensuring a more rapid translation of research into practice and practice into research.
  • keep developing best practices and quality services for individuals who use AAC by staying informed about practice innovations and advances and by collecting the evidence needed to support both traditional and new assessment and intervention approaches; and
  • foster partnerships and connections among and across communities, locally, nationally and internationally.

The Call for Papers online portal opened on June 25th and closed for new submssions on October 15, 2019. The Program Committee will make final decisions on the acceptance of proposals, as well as the final format of the presentations (i.e., Short Session, Poster, Interactive Seminar, Research Discussion Panel, Masterclass, or Hands-on Demo).

Q. Why is the Cancún conference being referred to as ISAAC 2020 or Conference 2020, if it is now being postponed to 2022?

A. ISAAC has noted multiple times that the 2020 Conference is being postponed, and not cancelled. This is one reason. In addition, ISAAC has already entered into multiple service provider contracts referencing the name “ISAAC 2020” and “Conference 2020”. In order to safeguard our contractual relationships, we will continue to maintain consistency with this naming, although we will likely modify our conference branding as we move closer to 2022.


Q. I have a presentation that was accepted as part of the scientific program for ISAAC Conference 2020. Is it still going to be included as part of the program when Conference 2020 is held between July 30th and August 4th, 2022?


A. Yes, your presentation is still going to be part of the scientific program.


Q. What if, for some reason, I need to withdraw my accepted paper from the scientific program. Can I do that?


A. Absolutely. When your paper was accepted, you received a confirmation email stating the title of your presentation and its submission id number. That information can be used to withdraw your paper. Withdrawals of previously accepted papers will be accepted up to, and including, September 15th, 2021. If you have any questions, simply send an email to conference2020@isaac-online.org.


Q. How do I withdraw my previously accepted paper?

A. Access the Conference 2020 Call for Papers system through our website. Under the “Authors:” heading, select the option “Withdraw Submission”. You will then be prompted to enter your Submission ID number and Password that was set when your paper was initially submitted. If you have forgotten either of these, you can automatically recover this information by using the email address linked to your submission, and the “forgot ID / forgot password” functionality. If you need further assistance, you can send an email to conference2020@isaac-online.org.


Q. What if I still wish to present my paper, but I need to provide updated information. Can I do that?


A. Again, absolutely. You can access the paper submission portal via the ISAAC website here, click on the “ISAAC 2020 Online Paper Submission and Review Portal” button, which will direct you to the system. You can then log in (using your submission id number and submission password), and edit your paper submission.


Q. What if I want to submit an entirely new paper for inclusion in the scientific program for ISAAC Conference 2020. Will there be an opportunity to do so?


A. Yes! ISAAC fully intends to launch a new Call for Papers, which will likely occur in the October, 2021 timeframe. Any author(s) who wish to submit a paper proposal (regardless of whether you already have an accepted presentation in the program), are free to do so.

P.           ¿Por qué se hace referencia al Congreso de Cancún como ISAAC 2020 o Congreso 2020, si ahora se pospone hasta 2022?

R.           ISAAC ha señalado varias veces que el Congreso de 2020 se pospone y no se cancela.   Esta es una de las razones.  Además, ISAAC ya ha celebrado varios contratos con proveedores de servicios que hacen referencia al nombre “ISAAC 2020” y “Congreso 2020”.  Para salvaguardar nuestras relaciones contractuales, continuaremos manteniendo la coherencia con este nombre, aunque es probable que modifiquemos la marca de nuestro congreso a medida que nos acerquemos al 2022.

P.           Tengo una presentación que fue aceptada como parte del programa científico del Congreso ISAAC 2020.  ¿Seguirá incluido como parte del programa cuando el Congreso 2020 se celebre entre el 30 de julio y el 4 de agosto de 2022?

R.           Sí, su presentación seguirá siendo parte del programa científico.

P.           ¿Qué pasa si, por alguna razón, necesito retirar mi trabajo aceptado del programa científico?  ¿Puedo hacer eso?

R.           Absolutamente. Cuando su trabajo fue aceptado, recibió un correo electrónico de confirmación indicando el título de su presentación y su número de identificación de envío. Esa información se puede utilizar para retirar su trabajo. Si tiene alguna pregunta, simplemente envíe un correo electrónico a conference2020@isaac-online.org.

P.           ¿Qué sucede si aún deseo presentar mi trabajo, pero necesito proporcionar información actualizada? ¿Puedo hacer eso?

R.           De nuevo, absolutamente. Puede acceder al portal de envío de trabajos a través del sitio web de ISAAC aquí, haga clic en el botón “Portal de envío y revisión de trabajos en línea de ISAAC 2020”, que lo dirigirá al sistema. Luego puede iniciar sesión (utilizando su número de identificación de envío y contraseña de envío) y editar su ponencia.
