Getting to and around the Gold Coast

The G:Link is a fully accessible tram service that connects many of the main tourist areas along the Gold Coast. If you have purchased the all-inclusive conference registration, you will be provided with a 6-day G:link pass. Or you can purchase a G:Link pass through our conference registration portal.

Delegates staying at the conference hotel, the Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise, can collect their G:Link pass at the hotel. Otherwise, your G:Link pass can be collected from the conference registration desk at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) during registration hours. You can also purchase G:Link tickets at a range of locations, including at tram stations.

Three sites for ISAAC 2018 are serviced by G:Link:

  • Griffith University (for Pre-Conference workshops) is serviced by Gold Coast University Hospital station.
  • Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (for the main conference) is serviced by Broadbeach North station.
  • The Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise, the official conference hotel, is serviced by Florida Gardens station.

You can also download the MyG: app for iOS or Google

Travelling to and from the Gold Coast by Air

The Gold Coast area is serviced by two different airports. Delegates travelling to ISAAC 2018 by plane should arrive at one of these two airports.

Gold Coast Airport (also known as Coolangatta Airport)

The Gold Coast Airport is located in Coolangatta, approximately 30 minutes’ drive from Broadbeach South tram station, where the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre is located. It has regular flights to and from all Australian Capital cities and some Queensland regional centres. It also has regular international flights from New Zealand, many cities in Asia and other places around the world. Please make sure you have contacted the airline about your access requirements for airport boarding and disembarking, as the standard arrangement at Gold Coast airport is stairs onto the tarmac.

Once you arrive at Gold Coast Airport you can travel to Broadbeach via taxi (approximate cost $50AUD), bus, or shuttle services.  You can also catch a bus from Gold Coast airport, which will take you to Broadbeach South tram station – and from there you can catch the G:link to your hotel.  Please note: if you are staying at the conference hotel, the Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise, the G:Link station Florida Gardens is directly in front of the hotel.

Accessible Travel: Gold Coast Airport

Gold Coast Cabs (GC Cabs) has wheelchair accessible taxis (maxi-taxi). On arrival at Gold Coast Airport, make your way to the taxi rank supervisor at the airport where a taxi will be allocated. A fixed rate applies for travel from the airport to Broadbeach ($55AUD) and Surfers Paradise ($65AUD).

To book an accessible taxi while on the Gold Coast or when returning to the airport, call 131008 or 55881234 (from mobile cell phone).

SkyBus Gold Coast Airport Shuttle fleet vehicles are fitted with either wheelchair lifts or low floor access. It is recommended that bookings are made at least 24 hours in advance to ensure a suitable shuttle bus is available. Cost from Gold Coast Airport to Broadbeach area is $20AUD one way, $39AUD return.

Local Surfside buses on the Gold Coast have pull-out ramp access or low floor access. Some older buses may not be accessible.

For more specific information please visit the transport page on the Gold Coast Airport site.

Brisbane Airport

Brisbane International Airport and Brisbane Domestic Airport are located in Brisbane, approximately 60 minutes’ drive from Broadbeach, where the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) is located. Brisbane International Airport has regular flights to and from cities all over the world. Brisbane Domestic Airport has regular flights from all Australian capital cities and many regional centres.

Once you arrive into Brisbane airport, you can travel to Broadbeach via train and tram, taxi (approximate cost $200AUD), or shuttle services.

To travel from Brisbane to the Gold Coast by train and tram, catch the Airtrain from either the domestic or international airport to the Gold Coast. Airtrain is the fastest way to travel to the Gold Coast and offers regular express services. Once you arrive at Helensvale at the Gold Coast, transfer to the G:Link to travel to your hotel or direct to the conference. Travel time is approximately 90 minutes.

Both the Airtrain and G:Link are accessible.
