Silent Auction

A Silent Auction is held at each ISAAC Biennial Conference to raise funds to support people who use AAC who wish to attend the next international conference. We are looking forward to hosting yet another successful auction in Toronto this coming August, organized and led by the Friends of ISAAC.

Conference delegates, presenters, and exhibitors are invited to contribute items to the Silent Auction.

What is a silent auction?

A silent auction is an auction in which bids are written on a sheet of paper. A time is set for the end of the auction, at which point the highest listed bidder wins the item. We have found in the past that the final minutes of the silent auction, as people finalize their bids, can be quite exciting!  All winning bids must be settled before the end of the event. Payment will be by credit card (VISA or MasterCard) only; there will be a minimum $10 credit card charge.

What items are suitable?

Almost anything! In past years we have had items representing a culture, country or region; home-made items; store-purchased items; AAC books and materials; writing paper; music CDs; office supplies; computers; software; books – anything you can fit into a suitcase and bring to Toronto, and that someone else can easily pack and take home. Products from companies in the exhibit area have been especially popular in previous years. Although all silent auction donations are appreciated, ISAAC reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to accept or decline any item.

ISAAC holds registered charitable status in Canada with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and 501(c)(3) status in the United States with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). We are therefore able to issue tax receipts for donated items. Please ensure that when you provide us with your donated items, you also provide a receipt listing its value so that we can issue you a tax receipt upon request. Donation receipts will be issued for amounts of $10 CDN or higher.

Please note:

  • If you are able to let us know if you will be bringing an item to donate, it will help us to plan the space. However, if you are not able to let us know, it doesn’t matter. It’s never too late to slip something into your suitcase!
  • When you get to Toronto, please bring your items to the ISAAC booth in the Exhibit Hall, where you will be given a card for the bidding, to put on the display table with your item(s).
  • We are asking everyone to take a few minutes to look over the articles on display and make a bid for one or more. There are usually some great gifts.
  • Payment for Silent Auction items will be accepted by credit card (VISA or MasterCard) only; there will be a minimum $10 credit card charge.
